Ready for the easiest, most satisfying DIY ever? Covet a spa-like shower experience? I have just the thing for you: shower melts! What in the world is a shower melt?! It’s the shower’s answer to the bath bomb. While this recipe may not have glitter or rainbows, it sure does have some magic.
I’ve seen a number of recipes for shower melts that incorporate all sorts of razzle-dazzle ingredients ranging from citric acid to kaolin clay, but being the busy (read: sometimes lazy) gal that I am, I opted for a simpler, 5-ingredient version.
orange + eucalyptus shower melts
1 1/2 cups baking soda
1/2 cup water
5-10 drops orange essential oil
5-10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Zest of 1 orange
Combine baking soda and water together to form a thick paste. Add 5-10 drops of orange and eucalyptus essential oils and mix well. I like a stronger aroma, so I opt for 10 drops of each essential oil. Add a pinch or two of orange zest into the mixture.
Spoon mixture into moulds and/or a muffin tin, making sure to press down as you scoop to avoid air bubbles. I used a silicone mould from Amazon, and it worked swimmingly. Wait overnight, or until dry, to remove shower melts from mould. They should pop out with ease. Sprinkle shower melts with the remaining orange zest.
Place shower melt on the floor of your shower; it should be adjacent to – but not directly in – the stream of water. The water will activate the shower melt and diffuse the aroma of the essential oils throughout your shower. For a more intense experience, place the shower melt closer to you – either on a shelf or in a shower caddy. Enjoy!
