Pacha Whipped Soap and Scrub

review: pacha whipped soap + scrub

When I first saw this product on the shelf of my local Whole Foods, I thought “whipped soap…what the heck…that’s so weird?!” One thing’s for sure…I simply couldn’t walk away. I’m glad I didn’t because weird turned out to be wonderful.

I purchased the honeysuckle rose scent, which has a mildly sweet aroma. The rose notes stand out more than the honeysuckle, and overall, it’s a very soothing scent. It smells wonderful without being overwhelming — which is great for those of us who have sensitive sniffers. Pacha also offers additional scents including charcoal lemongrass, coconut papaya, cucumber seaweed, french lavender, and vanilla almond. Yum!

As for its texture, this soap offered a new bath experience for me. The whipped texture is light but not insignificant. I find it lathers well and leaves you feeling clean without stripping your skin. The addition of volcanic ash lends itself to a gentle exfoliation.

I’ve been using it for about a month now and am a quarter way through the jar.

As always, I try to be cognizant of ingredients used in green beauty formulations. I’m particularly insistent on clean green products, as lots of brands are “green washing” — a marketing technique that deceptively promotes an organization’s products as environmentally friendly/healthy.

With that said, I’m very impressed by the ingredients used in this product:

Ingredients: Vegetable Glycerin, Water, Organic Fair Trade Sucrose, Sorbitol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Pumice, Sodium Chloride, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Juniperus Virginiana (Cedarwood) Oil, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Lavandula Officinalis (Lavender) Oil,  Vetiveria Zizanoides (Vetiver) Root Oil, Natural Fragrance (Non-synthetic scent derived from essential oils and plant extracts), Volcanic Ash, Levulinic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Kaolinite (French Rose Clay)

An added bonus? I particularly love that Pacha chooses to empower the communities with which they work. How cool is that? According to their website:

With Pacha, when you buy locally, you’re helping to create livelihoods globally. We enact our mission through the set-up of soap shops, clean water initiatives and other sustainable ventures in developing nations.

Pacha whipped soap + scrub comes in a 12 oz jar and retails for $11.99, but I was able to find it on sale at Whole Foods. I will definitely be buying another jar or two! How about you? Comment below.
