I have been a patron of Jiya Beauty for a few years now, purchasing their nourishing body oil (read my review) and Ayurvedic hair oil many, many times over. When Aarti Gala, the founder of Jiya Beauty, graciously sent me a few of her other products to try, I was thrilled!
Borne out of a desire to share her own self-care rituals, Aarti developed Jiya Beauty in an effort to help us find peaceful moments in our often harried lives. “Each creation is an experience for the mind as much as a (re)treat for the body,” says Gala. Read more from Aarti here.
Below are reviews for the two body products she sent. Aarti also sent a facial care product, but I’m going to save that for another post.
jiya beauty sky body oil
Performance: Light and fresh-smelling, this oil absorbs quickly into the skin, and the aroma lasts for several hours. I think this will be a nice, light moisturizer in warmer months. I find that it’s best to use after a warm bath or shower on damp skin. I usually use 3-5 dropper fulls of oil for my entire body. I’ve also enjoyed adding it to my baths — it’s a great way to escape dreary winter days!
Packaging: I love, love, love this square-shaped glass bottle. It’s so chic! The color of the label, paired with minimal copy, has a calming look and feel. It looks gorgeous on my dresser.
Ingredients: Prunus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Oil*, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Oil*, Lavandula officinalis (Lavender) Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Oil*, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil*, Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Oil*
*Certified Organic Ingredients
Scent Profile: Notes of lemongrass, jasmine, and vanilla are most prominent to my nose — in fact, the bouquet reminds me of limoncello! This is the scent of a warm summer Tuscan day. Truth be told, I can’t smell the notes of geranium, lavender, or frankincense, but I really like the aroma of this oil overall.
Price: $34.00 USD
Disposal: Recyclable glass bottle, glass dropper, and plastic dropper top. It’s such a sweet shape, though, that I’m going to save it for my DIYs.
jiya beauty earth aroma mist
Performance: Used as a body spray, linen spray, or hair perfume, I love the multi-use quality of this product. The scent isn’t particularly long-wearing, but I don’t mind; if you’re looking for a strong-long-wearing scent, this may not be for you. I use it more as an aromatherapy tool when I am stressed and need to feel grounded.
Packaging: Like the body oil, the aroma mist comes in a square-shaped glass bottle. I love the color of the label — a soft mauve. According to the Jiya Beauty website: “labels are made with a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content and printed using non-petroleum based, soy ink.” I’ll definitely be reusing this bottle!
Ingredients: Grain Alcohol*, Distilled Water, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil*, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Oil*, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Oil*, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Leaf Oil*, Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Oil, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil.
*Certified Organic Ingredients
Scent Profile: I’ll be honest and admit that I didn’t like this scent at first. The citrus notes were overpowering and a bit bitter. I put the scent aside for a while and picked it up on a day when I was feeling particularly stressed. When I tried the scent on that day, however, it smelled much more warm and inviting. I suppose my body was just reacting to what it needed! That said, while I don’t reach for this spray regularly, it’s perfect for days when I need to release tension and feel reinvigorated.
Price: $24.00 USD
Disposal: Recyclable glass bottle with plastic spray tube and top. Like with the body oil, I think I’m going to reuse this delightfully shaped spray bottle!
Needless to say, I continue to be impressed with Jiya Beauty. High-quality ingredients, reasonable prices, and an ethos I can get behind, I’ll definitely be repurchasing from this brand. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Jiya Beauty is committed to sustainable practices and note their website that they offset 100% of their carbon emissions by investing in environmental projects — awesome!
