Pacha Soap Body Butter on wooden board

review: pacha soap co. whipped hand and body butter

I’ve been a fan of Pacha Soap Co. for a couple of years now, purchasing both their bar soaps and their whipped soap and scrubs whenever I made a Whole Foods run. When they reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in trying their new line of whipped hand and body butter, I was so thankful for the chance to try them!

Pacha Soap Body Butter texture

Performance: I’m really satisfied with the performance of this product. It goes on smoothly and sinks right into the skin. The texture is light and fluffy, but it provides deep moisturization. If you want a cream that hydrates and doesn’t sit on top of your skin, you’ll enjoy this body butter. At first, I thought there was a bit of a film left on my skin when I put it on, but it quickly dissipates, leaving your skin soft and supple.

Scent Profile:

French Lavender: I absolutely love lavender-scented body products, and this is no exception. This single-note fragrance is both fresh and soothing. It doesn’t disappoint!

Coconut Lemon: This lovely combination of coconut and lemon smells like a beach vacation. While I like both of these scents individually, I wouldn’t say this is my favorite scent. That said, since scent is very personal, it might be a favorite of yours.

Vanilla Almond: Get ready to smell like a delicious, fresh-baked cupcake. A decadent combination of vanilla and almond, this scent will be right up your alley if you prefer food-scented products. I usually prefer florals, but this is just too yummy not to like!

Packaging: Plastic jar, lid, and interior plate that protects the product from spilling. There was a styrofoam interior plate in the french lavender body butter packaging. All of the plastic is recyclable, and I recognize that using plastic packaging may be useful for a variety of reasons (weight, cost-effectiveness, lack of fragility) and take less energy to produce/recycle than glass, but it doesn’t quite align with my attempts to reduce plastic consumption.

I want to make note of a few ingredients:

Fragrance (Natural): I wish they revealed these fragrance ingredients. I imagine these are essential oils, but it would be nice to confirm. I recognize that there is a debate over whether essential oils are sensitizing or beneficial, so I’ll let you make your decision accordingly. I personally have not had any issues with essential oils in body care products.

Phenoxyethanol: There are lots of conversations around this preservative. I’m linking a few sources of information below and implore you to do your research and make your own decision on if this is for you:

Overall, I’m really satisfied with these body butters! Yes, I have a few gripes about the packaging and a few ingredients, but I think this is a good product overall. I love its performance and accessible price-point. I particularly love that Pacha chooses to empower the communities with which they work. According to their website: “With Pacha, when you buy locally, you’re helping to create livelihoods globally. We enact our mission through the set-up of soap shops, clean water initiatives and other sustainable ventures in developing nations.” How cool is that? Have you tried Pacha?
